Accreditation

Accreditation means that activities with the indicated providers have been reviewed and approved for either meeting the Reflexology Association of Canada’s entry level competencies to be eligible to take the Association’s RCRT™ Exam or for continuing education purposes for Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapists (RCRT™s) and other interested individuals.

The aim of the accreditation process is to ensure the integrity, quality, and benefits of a specific activity.

Approved

“Approved” – The training/ meets RAC’s accreditation criteria.

Approved with Conditions

“Approved with Conditions” –This level of accreditation is for new trainings for which the Association needs to see outcomes AND/OR this level of accreditation may be granted if the Association has found that graduates need to take additional modules to meet the Association’s criteria. For accreditations with conditions, there is a 1-year time period to address the conditions. Extenuating circumstances may be taken into account.

Core Reflexology

“Core reflexology” is not a technique course. It is theoretical, describes reflexology and its practice and is independent of any particular reflexology technique. It comprises, minimally, an introduction to the following topics: anatomy & physiology, common pathologies, reflexology (including history, concepts & theories, benefits, reactions, contraindication guidelines, areas of emphasis for common conditions), client plan & session planning, professionalism (including legalities, hygiene & safety, ethics, therapeutic relationship), and business (including business plans, money management, time management, liability, marketing, networking).

Course Provider

The “Course Provider” is the individual or body (i.e. school, consortium, etc.) issuing certificates to participants/graduates.

Distance Learning/Self-Paced Learning

The activity’s materials are either physically mailed to participant to complete and send back to the course provider or, materials are available in an online format that the participant can review and/or complete at their own pace.

Foundational Training

Training that allows graduates to be eligible to register for the Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapist (RCRT™) exam.  Training that combines “core reflexology” and a qualifying technique is the most common type of foundational training.

Licensed Canadian Reflexology Teacher (LCRT)

Through the years, RAC has developed a number of reflexology training materials, including manuals, charts, protocols, and more. A Licensed Canadian Reflexology Teacher or LCRT is a RAC Professional Member in good standing who has licensed the right to teach using RAC materials.

In addition, a LCRT must:

🔸Have succeeded an anatomy & physiology course within the last 5 years.

🔸Have current professional liability insurance.

🔸Have current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED. Standard/Advanced First Aid is preferred but Emergency/Basic is accepted. Level C (Children) CPR is preferred but level A (Adults) is accepted.

🔸Not have a criminal record, not have any pending criminal charges and not be on any abuse registries.

A LCRT may be licensed to teach one or all of the following modalities: Core Reflexology, Foot Reflexology, Hand Reflexology and/or Ear Reflexology.

Professional Certification

Professional Certification is when a course provider has certified attested to the fact that a graduate of the activity can safely and correctly practice a particular modality, protocol, or technique.

Qualifying Technique

For a reflexology technique to be considered a “qualifying technique”, there must be a minimum of 50 assessed case study sessions and an “in-person” practical exam.

RCRT™ Exam

The Reflexology Association of Canada (RAC) requires all prospective or returning professional members to register for, take, and pass an entrance exam, known as the RCRT™ Exam, to qualify to become a Professional Member of the RAC.

To be eligible for the RCRT™ Exam, applicants must be certified in “core reflexology” and a “qualifying reflexology technique”. This certification can be two separate trainings or combined in a single training course.

Although this exam has written and practical components like a reflexology certification exam, it is different in that it assesses the entry-level competencies that RAC requires of professional membership as well as the professional application of the technique learned during a reflexology certification course and/or program.

IMPORTANT

The following activities with the indicated providers have been reviewed and approved for either meeting the Reflexology Association of Canada’s entry level competencies to be eligible to take the Association’s RCRT™ Exam or for continuing education purposes for Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapists (RCRT™s) and other interested individuals.

Applications are evaluated in relation to the scope of practice of reflexology as defined by the Reflexology Association of Canada (RAC), as well as to RAC’s mission and values. Additionally, foundational reflexology training applications are evaluated in relation to the competencies, determined by RAC, for entry into the professional practice of reflexology and assessed in the RCRT™ Exam for certified reflexology therapists wishing to become Professional members of the Association.

Beyond assessing training content, RAC evaluates training structure. RAC does not assess environment or course providers/instructors. RAC does, though, monitor accredited trainings annually and monitors outcomes. Both of these latter can affect the status of an accredited training.

If you do not find an activity listed below, it could be for one of three reasons:

1. The activity provider has not submitted the activity for accreditation with RAC.
2. The activity provider has chosen not to renew their accreditation with RAC.
3. The activity provider submitted an accreditation application that was not approved.

COURSE PROVIDER

All accreditations relate to a specific activity (i.e. course, workshop, conference, etc.). This means that if a school, business, or organization has more than one instructor teaching the same course, the “course provider” remains the school, business, or organization as long as it is the school, business or organization that issues certificates to the course graduates.

When RAC reviews an accreditation application we consider: the interest in our membership; the coherency, relevance and quality of the proposed content, format, presentation and supporting materials; and; the credibility of the provider.

ACCREDITATION LEVELS

Accreditation activities listed below may receive one of the following responses: “approved”,  or “approved with conditions”.

• If a course or activity is “approved”, it meets RAC’s accreditation criteria.
• If a course or activity is marked “approved with conditions” it means one of two things. The first is that it could be an accreditation of a new course for which the Association needs to see outcomes. The second meaning of this status is that the Association has found that graduates need some additional learning or need to do some additional work to meet the Association’s criteria. For accreditations with conditions, there is a 1-year time period to address the conditions. Extenuating circumstances may be taken into account.

Any individual registered in a reflexology certification course is eligible to become a Student Member of the Association and receive all the benefits and supports of RAC membership including Special Rates on Student Liability Insurance while students are completing their case studies. OUTCOMES

RAC measures the “outcomes” of its accredited activities. This measurement can be in terms of participant feedback, complaints filed and/or RCRT™ Exam results. These outcomes are meant to be collectively constructive and fair and/but they could affect the status of an accredited activity.

ACCREDITATION LIFESPANS & ANNUAL MONITORING 

Accreditations are valid until they no longer are.

RAC reaches out to all accredited course providers annually to ensure that the Association has up to date information about the accredited activity. If a course provider doesn’t respond to this check-in or has changed the activity so much that it no longer fits the original accredited description, the accreditation status may change.

MATERIAL COPYRIGHTS

The accreditation form asks course providers to attest to the fact that they have the right to teach using the materials they use. If RAC finds that a copyright has been broken, the status of the accreditation will be nullified.
